Welcome Back!
It is a pleasure to
welcome our orchestra families back for another school year. Middle school
and high school students are preparing for their Fall concerts. I encourage
younger students and their families to attend the High school concert on
Monday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium. Middle
school students may earn extra credit points for attending this concert.
High School / Middle School
Musicianship and Assessment
This year I am
again making a concentrated effort to expose students to the elements of
music. I am requiring them to complete a few short written assignments per
quarter. This constitutes a small part of the overall grade.
I have once again established a portfolio for each student. Look for them at
conferences. As far as I am concerned, the biggest advantage to the
portfolio is student motivation. Middle school students are required to
complete weekly goals sheets. All grading policies are contained in the
portfolio.
Please keep asking your child if he/she is keeping
up to date on lesson assignments and the weekly practice record. Twice
during the quarter, students are required to have you initial their practice
logs.

New Middle School Lesson Policy
Middle school students are only required to take four 20 minute lessons per
quarter. These lessons are, for the most part, on an individual basis and
are to be pre-arranged with the classroom teachers.
Elementary
Fourth and Fifth Grade Orchestras meet on Wednesdays at 12:10 at the
Luther Building. Rockwell and Barrie students are bussed to Luther. In
addition all elementary students receive one 20 minute small group lesson
per week as follows:
BARRIE STUDENTS - TUESDAYS
ROCKWELL STUDENTS -
MONDAYS
PURDY STUDENTS -
THURSDAYS
ALL STUDENTS are responsible for coming to Orchestra and lessons on
time, having their instrument and music with them. I will be sending home
lesson schedules. Studetns are expected to bring their lesson/practice logs
to every lesson. It is more productive to play every day, even for only five
minutes, than to skip a day entirely. Goals are very important. Help your
students develop a healthy, daily practice routine! Also, please help them
remember to take their instruments and music to school on lesson days
Fourth and fifth grade orchestra students will participate in the following
concerts during the school year:
Holiday Concert, Dec. 13,
7:00pm.
Dessert Concert, March 19 2:00pm
String Festival, May 18, 7:30pm |
