http://www.fortschools.org/hswebs/OrchestraBoosters/Clinics.htm
Monday, May 17, 2004
Each spring, the Fort Atkinson High School Choirs and Orchestra hold a Clinic Day at the high school where the groups work with a guest conductor-clinician. Musical pieces are chosen in advance and worked on during regular class periods. The High School Orchestra, and Choirs, spent Monday, May 17th meeting with guest conductor-clinicians, Janet L. Jensen, Ph.D (Orchestra), and Sandy Cordes (Choral). The combined Choral & Orchestra Concert that followed the clinic gave the students the opportunity to present what they have learned and accomplished during their respective clinics.

At the conclusion of "Pirates of the Caribbean", the audience gave the Orchestra a rousing standing ovation.

Janet L. Jensen, Ph.D.
Dr. Janet Jensen has been on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin – Madison since 1992, where she holds the position of Professor of String Pedagogy. In that capacity she is responsible for undergraduate and graduate course work related to teaching string instruments in both school and private settings, and she directs the graduate degree program in String Development. She conducts the All-University String Orchestra, a non-auditioned orchestra for all interested string players which has grown to over 225 members in the current school year.
As a life-long beneficiary of school music and university outreach programs herself, Dr. Jensen maintains a strong and active commitment to "The Wisconsin Idea" of fostering outreach programs in the state of Wisconsin. She directs the summer National String Workshop for teachers, conductors and performers; teaches skills and ensemble classes for adults; and has served as a consultant for string programs in Oshkosh, Platteville, and Greendale. She founded and continues to advise the Chamber Music Program of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras, and has been associated with WYSO as a member, conductor, coach and alumni representative since 1969. She is an active clinician, hosting or visiting several school orchestras every semester.
Prof. Jensen has served as the chair of the American String Teachers Association Task Force on Teacher Certification and as a member of the Task Force on Teacher Preparation. As the Middle School Curriculum Consultant for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s "Arts in Community Education" (ACE) Program, she worked with a program known throughout the United States for its commitment to on-going, sequential partnerships with school music programs. She is currently president-elect of the Wisconsin chapter of ASTA with NSOA, and serves on the board of the Suzuki Strings of Madison.
Dr. Jensen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Master’s degrees in String Development and Flute Performance from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Texas-Austin.
