HS trip to Florida!
It's Dessert Concert time again! Mark March 18 on your calendar and tell your friends and family about this time-honored tradition that combines sweet delicacies with wonderful orchestra music performed by Fort Atkinson School students.

The Dessert Concert is the cornerstone fundraising activity and exclusive concert of the orchestra students in Fort Atkinson Schools.

Before the curtain raises at the Fort Atkinson School auditorium, attendees will be treated to an elegant selection of desserts in the High School Commons. At 2:00 p.m., the students will perform a variety of selections for the audience in the High School Auditorium.

"Our goal is to present a special and elegant event for our students and their families and friends. After years of experience, we have a well-planned event; but it is not possible without your help," says Trisha Nielsen, orchestra instructor. "It's also a major fundraiser for the Orchestra Boosters,

which helps fund field trips, scholarships and other activities for students throughout the year."

The desserts will be served buffet-style starting at 1:15 pm. Tickets are $4 each and you are encouraged to purchase them in advance. Details about tickets are included with this edition of the Orchestra Newsletter. Please read carefully and pay special attention
to the deadlines involved.

The students are all working hard on preparing music for everyone's enjoyment. Be sure to get your tickets!

As with all volunteer groups, the Orchestra Boosters needs your help to make this event a success. Please let us know how you can help by filling our and returning the volunteer form with your ticket request.

Orchestra students will also be able to enjoy the dessert after they perform. They will eat their dessert and then be seated in a reserved section of the auditorium. Chaperones will help them get to their desserts and seats, so parents can truly enjoy the concert!

Solo Ensemble competition approaches
Fort Atkinson High School will host this year's area Solo/Ensemble contest Saturday, March 10.

Developed by the Wisconsin School Music Association, students in grades 6 through 12 from the Southern Lakes Conference schools will perform selected pieces for an

adjudicator who will critique them and award them with a first through fifth rating.

This is the fourth year Fort will take part in the Southern Lakes competition; Fort is the only school with orchestra members competing.

Accompanist fee due March 2
If your student is performing a solo at the Solo/Ensemble contest, he or she likely needs and accompanist. The fee is $10 for each competition your child is in. If you have not already done so, please submit to Ms. Nielsen. Make checks payable to Fort Atkinson Schools and note it is for the solo accompanist fee.
