2004 Middle School Jazz Cafe Guest:

___________________________________________________________________________

Jazz trombonist Steve Weist is in great demand as a featured artist, composer/arranger and clinician. Throughout the U.S., he is enjoying success and critical acclaim as he pursues an ambitious performing schedule while continuing to record, compose and arrange.

Steve also has appeared in Canada, South America, Australia, Japan, and Europe. Steve was the featured trombonist and arranger with the Maynard Ferguson Band. Since his tenure at UWW, he has also been the featured trombonist with the Doc Severinsen and Frank Mantooth Big Bands recording "Swingin The Blues" with Doc on Azika records in 2000. His latest arrangement for Maynard can be heard on the CD "Brass Attitude" by Maynard Ferguson and Big Bop Nouveau".

After a two-year stint as Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, Steve became Director of Jazz Studies and Trombone at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. His duties at UW-W include directing the award-winning Jazz Symposium, the Jazz Ensemble, the ever-popular UW-W Jazz Camp, and the trombone studio. Steve also teaches jazz pedagogy courses, jazz history, jazz improvisation and jazz composition and arranging. A very busy clinician, Steve conducts all-state jazz groups, clinics, masterclasses and guest appearances throughout the US on a regular basis. Professor Wiest is also a member of the Whitewater Faculty Brass Quintet
