Mission Statement

Jefferson County STC Consortium will provide opportunities for competency, skill-based, hands-on training for its high school students combining academic and technical instruction with mentored on-the-job learning.

Did You Know...

  • Wisconsin statewide statistics indicate that more then half of our graduating high school students do not either attend or finish a four-year college degree.
  • In 2004-2005 only 23 percent of those beginning a four-year college degree finished with only 10 percent finding jobs in their field of study.

The results of these statistics mean that students are:

  • Often taking college preparatory courses that may have no purpose
  • Intending to go to technical college after graduation and often have inadequate preparation
  • Going directly into the workforce and may not have high-level technical skills needed in an industry specific area- limiting students to low-wage entry-level jobs

Automotive Youth Educational Systems - AYES

WHAT IS "AYES"?

RECOMMENDED SEQUENCE of CLASSES for AYES PARTICIPATION

AYES (Automotive Youth Educational System) is the premier organization helping to create strong partnerships between local dealerships and secondary schools that offers high quality automotive programs. Currently, there are only 14 schools in the State of Wisconsin offering this opportunity. Here in Jefferson County, Jefferson High School is one of those elite sites. AYES is supported by a number of automotive manufacturers in a national strategy that relies on the dedicated efforts of the local partners - dealerships and schools - to make it work successfully. AYES is also supported by the NADA, ASE, participating state and metropolitan dealer associations, state department of education and dedicated suppliers to the retail automotive industry.

The Automotive Program at Jefferson High School is extremely fortunate to be able to participate in AYES. As a result, it is important to note that this is a program designed to focus on the development of entry-level service technicians through a carefully monitored competency skill based training - both in the high school classroom and in the work-site service areas. Dealerships and independent automotive shops will provide paid work-site opportunities where students can develop skills through extended hands-on learning once the student proves his/her competence in the classroom. Upon successful completion, students will receive an AYES certificate and should be qualified to be an entry-level employee or to pursue college-level automotive technical studies. Many technical colleges are offering up to 15 credits for successful completion of AYES programming at the high school level.

Competencies are taught in classes as follows:

Automotive Technology
Is the Introductory Course for all four parts of the entire AYES program and must be taken first before Brakes, Steering & Suspension and Engine Performance & Electronics classes
