Mrs. Wixom's First Grade Class - 2015-2016

  • Welcome to First Grade!

    Dear First Grade Families,

Allow me to introduce myself to you so you know a little bit about me before you come to first grade.  I got my Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991 and have been teaching ever since.  I completed my Masters of Education from St. Mary’s University in 1999. I completed my Reading Recovery training during the 2000-2001 school year.

I began my career teaching first grade in Sun Prairie, WI.  I taught both first and second grade there before moving to Fort Atkinson in 1997 to teach second grade.  I taught at Purdy for three years before our oldest son, Braeden, was born in 2000.  At that time, I started to teach Reading Recovery, and continued in that role for 13 years.  I am thrilled to be back in the first grade classroom full-time.

Outside of school, I am a busy mom of two boys, Braeden, 15, and Greysen, 12.  My husband, Eric and I spend most of our time with the boys.  We enjoy going to the boys' sporting events year-round, (of which there are many) golfing and skiing together, and traveling to visit family and friends.  The other member of our family is Callaway, our six year old Vizsla.  She still thinks she’s a puppy and requires a lot of love, exercise and attention.

As we look forward to the coming year, I want to make sure all our families feel welcome and comfortable in our room.  If you have any questions or concerns, the easiest way to reach me is usually via email, (  but you are welcome to send notes, call or stop in to see me.  As we establish our school-day routine, my intention is to send home monthly notes to keep you up to date on first grade happenings, (just in case your kiddo tells you they don’t do anything at school).  Please make sure to check your child’s green take-home folder EVERY night for any information you may need to make sure your kiddo has everything they need and is ready to learn every day when they come to school.

Thank you for sharing your child with me!
