TALK, TALK, TALK - Did you know having conversations and telling stories are pre-reading skills?

    • Talk about the things you see, hear, notice, etc...
    • Ask questions about things you see, hear, notice, etc...
    • Reflect on things you did, saw, experienced, etc...

READ, READ, READ - Did you know that reading with children helps them learn to speak, interact, bond with parents and read early themselves? And, did you know reading with kids who already know how to read helps them feel close to caretakers, understand the world around them and be empathetic citizens of the world?

    • Go to the public library - there are so many activities including Storytime
    • Read any time of the day - it does not have to be only at bedtime
    • Read using a variety of materials - cereal boxes, signs, audio-books, toy catalogs, etc...
    • Read in a variety of settings - make a fort, go outside, at the grocery store, find signs when riding in the car, etc...
    • Play rhyming games, sing silly songs, "read" a book by describing the pictures instead of reading the words, use wordless books, make your own book by stapling paper together and drawing or cutting out pictures
