LEARNING THROUGH PLAY
When you enter our classrooms it may appear that we are playing instead of working. Play IS the work of a child. Research has shown that play is the most effective way for a child to learn. The play opportunities in our Early Childhood classrooms are intentional and structured to facilitate learning.
Here are some things we learn through play:
- Social Skills - sharing and self-control
- Fine Motor Skills - to prepare our hands for writing
- Gross Motor Skills - coordination and balance
- Creative Expression - taking pride in our work, self-direction, and imagination
- Sensory Sensations - feeling various textures and working with different mediums during play
- Emotional Awareness - talking about our feelings and emotions
- Literacy Skills - book care and recognizing familiar words
- Math Skills - counting, sorting, and comparing
- Science Skills - constructing, experimenting, and observing
-
HEALTH INFORMATION
We all work hard to minimize the spread of germs to keep everyone healthy but sickness does happen. If your child is sick here are the guidelines for when s/he can return to school.
If your child is showing covid symptoms please keep them home:
- Fever - Child should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
- Vomiting - Child has not thrown up for 24 hours and is back to regular eating
- Diarrhea - Child must be diarrhea free for 24 hours
- Rash - Consult your child’s health care provider
- Cough/Congestion - Child may return when they are no longer experiencing severe coughing or congestion
- Communicable Illness - If your child has been diagnosed with a communicable disease requiring antibiotics (such as strep throat or pink eye) they need to be excluded from school until they have been treated with the antibiotic for 24 hours.
-
COMMUNICATION
Students learn best when we are all working toward the same goals therefore communication is very important to us.
We use a communication app called Class Dojo to post classroom updates, news, and information. You will also be able to see your child’s individual portfolio and watch his or her progress throughout the year as well as overall class photos/activites. There is also a message option in which you can send your child’s teacher a private message.
Be sure to give your child's teacher email addresses so they can set you up with a Class Dojo parent account.
-
BUS RIDERS
- If your child will be taking the bus, the bus company will contact you 1-2 days prior to the first day of school to notify you of approximate pick up and drop off times. Please be aware that these times may change over the course of the school year as bus routes are adjusted.
- If your child is usually a bus rider, but you desire to drop them off at school instead you must contact the bus company (920.563.3652) to let them know.
- If your child will be picked up at dismissal instead of riding the bus, please let us know before 2:30PM. Otherwise, your child will be sent home on the bus as usual.
-

- Treat each other with kindness and respect
- Take care of our school, our classroom, and each other
- Work and play safely
- It's okay to make mistakes
-
DRESSING FOR SCHOOL
- Please dress your child in comfortable clothes. We will be busy moving around and doing many fun activities each and every day.
- Please avoid crocs or flip flops as they can be a tripping hazard during active play.
- Please understand that we engage in messy play activities and art projects on a daily basis so your child’s clothes may get dirty.
- Clothing can be misplaced so please make sure every article of clothing your child may remove at school is clearly labeled with his/her name. This includes jackets, sweatshirts, and ALL winter gear.
