Thank you to all of the families who have already filled out the Conference Request Form.  We look forward to seeing everyone during our Winter Conferences on Tuesday, January 28th and Thursday, January 30th.  The Conference Request Form is due this Wednesday, January 8th in order to allow the office time to create the final schedule that will honor family requests.  Families will recieve a confirmation of their child's Conference time during the week of January 20th.  

We are also looking forward to welcoming families to our first PTO Meeting of the new year!  All families are welcome to join us tomorrow night at 6:00 in the Rockwell IMC for our January PTO Meeting.

Thank you to our Student Council members who were a part of the SDFA portion of the Fort Atkinson Holiday Parade last night.  You represented Rockwell very well.  It was also fun to get to see so many other Roadrunners representing their other organizations throughout the parade.

This week we have one exciting event for families to enjoy.  Tomorrow, Tuesday, December 10th are our Winter Concerts.  These concerts take place in the Fort Atkinson Auditorium.

This is going to be a very exciting week at Rockwell Elementary School.  We are looking forward to welcoming all of our families into the school on Friday for our Family Meal.  But even before then, here are some things to know.

Humane Society Pet Supply Drive:  The Student Council is sponsoring a Pet Supply Drive.  There was a flier in your student's folder last week and a copy is also attached to this message.  The Pet Supply Drive will be going on until December 18th.  Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Poinsettia Orders: Families received a flier last week regarding our annual Poinsettia sale.  Families are able to purchase poinsettias through the school that become an important part of our decorations for our Winter Music Concerts on December 10th.  I have attached  a copy of the order form to this message.  You are able to take your poinsettias home on the night of the concert after your child performs.  These poinsettias make a great gift for family members.  Order forms are due this Friday, November 22nd.

Upcoming Winter Concerts: We are exciting to showcase our students' musical talent at our annual Winter Concerts.  Mark your calendars for the evening of December 10th.  Our K-2 concert will begin at 6:00 and the 3rd-5th concert will begin at 7:00.  Both concerts take place at the Fort Atkinson High School.  More information can be found on the flier sent home in your child's folder last week which is also attached to this message.  We hope to see you all there.

FAHS Cinderella Production Field Trip: THIS WEDNESDAY, November 20th: Rockwell Elementary School is excited to see a special performance of the FAHS production of Cinderella.  We will be walking to the high school for this trip.  Make sure your child has the appropriate warm weather gear to make this walk on Wednesday.  This walk typically takes 20 minutes.  Due to this production, our lunch schedule is slightly modified for this day.  If you have a need for that specific time on Wednesday please contact the Main Office and it will be provided to you.

Friday, November 22nd: The Rockwell Family Meal:   We are extremely excited to welcome Rockwell families into the building for this special lunch.   There will be a place for you to check in in the front of the building for your child's lunchtime.  The adjusted lunch times are below.

Kindergarten: 11:15 

1st Grade: 11:35 

2nd Grade: 11:25

3rd Grade: 11:00 

4th Grade: 11:50 

5th Grade: 12:00 

During the Family Meal there will be many opportunities for you to take part in.

• There will be bins in the front of the building for you to leave any winter gear donations you may have.  As the temperatures drop and you begin going through your bins of winter gear, please consider donating the following gently used items to Rockwell:
  • Waterproof Gloves
  • Coats
  • Snowpants
  • Snow Boots
• The Lost and Found will be in the front of the building for you to find any of your child's missing belongings.  After Friday, the remaining items will be boxed up and sent to Goodwill.
• There will be a cart of discarded books in the front of the building for you to look through for your child to take home.
• Our Scarecrow entry will be available for those last photos before it is disassembled
• Our PTO will have a Photobooth opportunity in the cafeteria for your to capture a family photo as a memory from this special day
• The Teacher Giving Tree will be located in the front of the cafeteria.  The tree will have wish lists from staff of ideas for gifts for their classroom if your family is thinking of doing that during this holiday time.

Today is an exciting one here at Rockwell.  Not only is it an Early Release Day for students but it is the day that we celebrate our Veterans both related to students and staff at Rockwell as well as across the country.  If you have a family member being recognized and are attending our assembly, please do not arrive any earlier than 12:30.  We will take you to the gym and get you seated before the students come in at 12:45.  This is always a very special event.

Today is an Early Release Day.  Students will be dismissed at 1:30 out of their regular doors.

Thank you to our PTO for their work and organization of the Fall Party.  We will be meeting on Tuesday form 6:00-7:00 in the Rockwell IMC to discuss the next set of events and would love everyone to join us.  New ideas are celebrated and welcomed.  

Report Card Reminders:

Report Cards went home with students in their folders on Friday.  Please sign the envelope and return it to your child's teacher as soon as practical.

Cinderella Meal Reservation:

Rockwell Elementary School will be taking a walking field trip next Wednesday, November 20th to see a special presentation of the FAHS production of Cinderella.  There is no cost to students as our PTO is funding this experience.  On this day we are having a special lunch for students.  It is a single grab n go option to expedite the lunch hours.  If your child will be eating lunch from school on this day please return the Cinderella form in your child's folder by this Wednesday, November 13th to provide our Nutrition Department time to order the correct amount.

Family Meal Reminders:

The Rockwell Family Meal will be held on Friday, November 22nd.  Thank you for submitting your reservations for family meals last week.  Reservations were only required for family members eating the lunch from the school.  Students eating hot lunch that day do not need a ticket.  They will order their lunch as normal that morning in their classroom.

Looks like our preparation for inclement weather scared it away this morning.  Students have been enjoying time on the dryer portions of the playground today.  Always a helpful reminder to have an extra pair of clothes and dry socks in your child's backpack in case they step into a puddle or mud.

Thank you to all of the families that attended our fall festivities last week.  It was a great way to end quarter one and we are excited for the beginning of quarter 2 today.  Attached you will find the November newsletter for your long range planning but here are some reminders for your week ahead.

Our Rockwell Team and PTO are excited to celebrate the end of the first quarter with the students and all of you.  Here are some upcoming events for you to be aware of.

Wednesday, October 30th:

• Last Day of Quarter 1
• Families are welcome to join in the fun of our Fall Costume Parade beginning at 2:00.  Students will exit the front of the school and walk up and down the block of Cramer Street that is along the playground side of our school.  If it is raining that afternoon families will be able to view the parade from the gym.
• PTO Fall Party: Students and their families are encouraged to return to Rockwell that evening in their costumes for our Fall Party.  The Rockwell PTO, Student Council and Staff have been working hard together to make this a very special event.
  
  • The event is from 5:30-7:30 at Rockwell
  • Families should enter through the Rockwell Main Doors
  • This year's party will feature a dance in the gym, a Spooky Hallway in the basement, refreshments for sale and a fall movie in the cafeteria and Trunk or Treat on the playground (or in the hallway if the weather does not permit it to be outside)
  • Students returning for the Fall Party must be accompanied by an adult
• Costume Reminders: Everyone enjoys seeing all of the students dressed up for the parade and at the Fall Party.  This is just a reminder that we have very young students who attend Rockwell and have even younger siblings who attend the Fall Party.  We want these experiences to be fun for all of our students and families.  We ask that students save their scariest costumes for Trick or Treat.  There should be no blood or gore associated with the costumes at our school events and we do not allow students to have any props that look like weapons on school grounds.  

Thursday October 31st and Friday November 1st: There is no school for students on these dates.  Students will return for the start of Quarter 2 on Monday, November 4th.

Veterans Day Assembly:  Rockwell will be partnering with a group of local veterans to provide a powerful assembly in honor of this day.  The Rockwell Veterans Day Assembly will take place at 12:45 on Monday, November 11th in the Rockwell Gym.  November 11th is also an Early Release Day and students will be dismissed at 1:30.

What a difference a week makes!  Last Monday we were huddled together with hats and gloves out on the playground and this week is set to be a beautiful one with warmer temperatures.  I hope you and your family enjoyed every moment of this beautiful fall weekend.

It feels like the school year has just begun but we are already coming to the end of first quarter.  Below you will find information to assist you in your planning for the next two weeks.

Wednesday, October 23rd is our October Birthday Lunch:  Students who have birthdays in October will eat their lunches with me in the IMC.  This is always a fun time for the students and I as I get to learn more about them.

Wednesday, October 30th:

• Last Day of Quarter 1
• Families are welcome to join in the fun of our Fall Costume Parade beginning at 2:00.  Students will exit the front of the school and walk up and down the block of Cramer Street that is along the playground side of our school.  If it is raining that afternoon families will be able to view the parade from the gym.
• PTO Fall Party: Students and their families are encouraged to return to Rockwell that evening in their costumes for our Fall Party.  The Rockwell PTO, Student Council and Staff have been working hard together to make this a very special event.
  
  • The event is from 5:30-7:30 at Rockwell
  • Families should enter through the Rockwell Main Doors
  • This year's party will feature a dance in the gym, a Spooky Hallway in the basement, refreshments for sale and a fall movie in the cafeteria and Trunk or Treat on the playground
  • Students returning for the Fall Party must be accompanied by an adult
• Costume Reminders: Everyone enjoys seeing all of the students dressed up for the parade and at the Fall Party.  This is just a reminder that we have very young students who attend Rockwell and have even younger siblings who attend the Fall Party.  We want these experiences to be fun for all of our students and families.  We ask that students save their scariest costumes for Trick or Treat.  There should be no blood or gore associated with the costumes at our school events and we do not allow students to have any props that look like weapons on school grounds.  

Thursday October 31st and Friday November 1st: There is no school for students on these dates.  Students will return for the start of Quarter 2 on Monday, November 4th.

The fall weather is definitely here.  We had many chilly students enter the building this morning.  It seems the time to go through the hat and mitten bins is upon us.  Thank you for making sure your child has the appropriate outdoor gear to enjoy the early morning recesses that can be quite chilly this time of year.

Our weather on Friday was perfect for our Ag Day!  Make sure to keep checking the district facebook page in the days ahead for a video of the fun.  The high school students shared how respectful all of our Roadrunners were.

Today is our October Early Release Day.  Students will be dismissed form their normal doors at 1:30 this afternoon.

Friday, October 18th is our Picture Retake Day.  Families should have received a digital copy of your child's photo for you to preview and order.

Here are some reminders for the week ahead from our PTO:

Tonight is Dine Out night at Sal's for dine-in or carry out.  A portion of all sales comes back to our Rockwell PTO.

It was so much fun seeing our school turn red and black in support of our High School students for Homecoming last Friday.  Many former Rockwell students participated in many of the events that were held last week at the high school.  

This week we have a few events occurring that you may want to be aware of.  Please refer to the October Newsletter that was sent last week for your long range planning for the month ahead including information on our fall activities at the end of the month.

Tomorrow night is our October PTO Meeting at 6:00 in the Rockwell IMC.  The Rockwell PTO has already done so much for our students this year including:

• Facilitating the Book Fair during conferences
• Providing a meal for staff during conferences
• Facilitating a Brat Sale to raise money for our students at Jones Dairy
• Gifting all of our incoming Kindergarten students with their first piece of spirit wear

October is a fun month for PTO and is a great time to check it out if you haven't been to a meeting in the past.  All families and welcome and children are always welcome to come along.

Our students will not want to miss Friday!  This year is Rockwell's turn to have the high school come and facilitate Ag Day.  Our Roadrunners will have special lessons in their classrooms being taught by high school students and there will be live animals onsite for them to learn more about.  This day rotates each year between the elementary schools so it is always a special day.

It was wonderful to see so many students dressed appropriately for this morning's cooler temperatures.  The mornings can become quite cool now and then afternoons remain very warm, so layers are appreciated by our students to enjoy their time outside each day.

Our Rockwell team is looking forward to welcoming all of our families into the building this week for our Fall Conferences.  You should have received your child's Conference Slip and returned it by now but if you are unsure of the time or date do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Radloff in the Main Office at 920-563-7818.

In years past we have held conferences in November to share academic and social emotional progress with you.  This year we are taking on a new approach to allow us to partner with all of you much earlier in the year.  This time with your child's teacher and learning team is geared towards hearing from you more about your child.  We are looking forward to hearing how they have felt their educational journey has been so far and hearing from you all about the things they love as well as any family dynamic structures you would like to share.

While you are in the building make sure to make a stop in the Cafeteria where our Rockwell Book Fair will be open.  This will be the only opportunity to access the Book Fair this fall.  You are welcome to come any time during conferences on Tuesday or Thursday night to enjoy it.  It will be open from 3-7 on both nights. What a beautiful weekend!  Looks like nothing but blue skies in the week ahead.  Thank you for continuing to send water bottles with your child so they can stay hydrated on these warm days.

Thank you to all of the families who joined us this weekend for the Brat Fry at Jones Dairy.  This event was put on and coordinated by our Rockwell PTO.  We will be having our first Rockwell PTO Meeting of the year tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 17th beginning at 6:00 in the Rockwell IMC.  Meetings are typically an hour or less and children are welcome to come along.  Our PTO puts on so many fun events for families throughout the school year.  New ideas are always welcome and celebrated!

If you do not already follow our Rockwell PTO facebook page, I encourage you to do so.  It is a great place to stay up to date on many of the happenings at Rockwell.  Including how we can win an opportunity to have Moose visit one of our classrooms.

Thank you as well to all of the families who returned their Conference Slips this morning.  If you were unable to do so this morning please return them by Wednesday to let us know whether the time does or does not work for you.  Our team is looking forward to meeting with all families for our Family/ Teacher Conferences next Tuesday, September 24th and Thursday, September 26th.

This afternoon at 1:00 we will be swearing in our Safety Patrollers and announcing this year's Safety Patrol Officers.  This is always a very special event. 5th Grade Families are welcome to attend.  It will be held in the Rockwell Cafeteria.

This Friday, September 20th is our Rockwell Picture Day. Thank you in advance for making sure your child is at school and camera ready by the time the 7:55 school bell rings in the morning.  Our picture schedule begins shortly after the announcements and we want to make sure everyone has their photo taken on Friday.

I hope you and your family enjoyed some of the fall temperatures this weekend.  This week we are going to gear back up into summer weather.  It will be a great week for outdoor recess.

We are looking forward to welcoming all of you into Rockwell tomorrow night, September 10th, for our Open House.  Make sure you pick up a Scavenger Hunt form on your way in to add to the fun!  Open House is from 5-6.  

Thank you to all of the families who have already filled out the Fall Conference form.  We are asking families to have the form filled out by Wednesday afternoon.  This form provides us the information we need to schedule the best time for your family to ensure sibling conferences are scheduled back to back and at the best time for you.

The conferences will take place on September 24th and 26th.

Welcome to the 2024-25 school year!  At the beginning of each week I send out an email to families letting them know of the events taking place for that week.  Beginning in October there will be a monthly newsletter you will receive, but the weekly emails are just as reminders as the weeks go by so fast.

Attached to this email you will find information on how to apply for Free and Reduced Lunches and Breakfasts.  We encourage everyone to take a look and fill it out.

Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year.  It was so fun to see everyone on the playground as we cheered in the new year.  Staff will be on the playground again tomorrow morning at 7:45 to greet students, especially since it will be the first day for our second group of Kindergarten students.  Just as reminder that if your Kindergartner attended today they would not come tomorrow to allow us to get to know our newest Kindergartners better in a small group.  We are excited to have the whole school back together on Friday.  If you do choose to join us on the playground tomorrow morning please do not park on the side of Cramer Street that connects to our playground.  The Fort PD allows us to have people let their children out there but not to park and vacate your vehicle.  Please park on the other side of the street to allow for families to drop of their child and continue on their way to their next destination.

We appreciate everyone's understanding and flexibility as we were unable to host our traditional Back to School Night prior to the school year.  We know that caused students to have many bags to manage this morning.  And now that the backpacks are considerable lighter we wanted to remind families to make sure you have extra clothes packed in your child's backpack, just in case of accidents.  Our office has already loaned out our first set of clothing for a child.

This Friday will be our first Spirit Day of the year!  We encourage students to wear their Roadrunner gear or blue and yellow.  We will also be taking our class photos on that day to hang in the cafeteria for the year.  

I hope to see everyone at our Open House next Tuesday, September 10th from 5-6.  Our students have been excited to see all of the changes to Rockwell and we are excited for you to see them too next week.

The superintendent has the authority to close schools. Please make certain your child knows where he/she is to go after school begins in case school has to be closed early because of emergency situations that may result from school plant facility failure or inclement weather conditions.

On days when the weather and road conditions make travel extremely hazardous, school buses may not operate. Announcements regarding school closings will be made on the following radio/tv stations:

Tuesday, January 9th: January PTO Meeting:  All families are welcome to join us at our January PTO Meeting.  Our PTO is an important partnership between our school and our families.  We look forward to seeing everyone at 6:00pm.

Thursday, January 11th:  PTO Roller Night:  Thank you to all of the families who have already sent in their money to pre-order tickets for Thursday night's event.  A flier went home in student folders last week.
