5th Grade Band & Orchestra - Mrs. Jessica Gary, Director

The Fort Atkinson School District offers students the opportunity to participate in many musical opportunities, including BAND & ORCHESTRA!

Band and Orchestra is available for students when they enter 5th Grade. Students interested in participating in either (or both) groups, receive informational packets about band and orchestra in May of their 4th Grade year (copy available below).

Please view this VIDEO for a fun look at Fort Atkinson students promoting Band and Orchestra for interested students!

In 5th Grade, students choose from the following instruments:

    Orchestra: Violin, Viola, or Cello

(The Bass is an option for interested orchestra students once they reach middle school)

Band: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, or Percussion

In May, Middle School orchestra students travel to the elementary schools to perform for 4th graders and to talk about the ORCHESTRA experience. 4th Graders also have the opportunity to play each of the orchestra instruments at that time. A Sign-Up Night for interested students takes place a few days later. Students that sign up for orchestra begin lessons immediately at the start of their 5th grade school year.

In mid-October of their 5th Grade year, all elementary students travel to the High School to see a presentation by current High School BAND students. Before signing up for band, all students have the opportunity to try playing each of the possible band instruments with help from Mrs. Gary - to determine which instrument will be the best choice. A Sign-Up Night takes place in late October. Students begin weekly lessons in mid-November.
