Return to School Guidelines

  • The return to school guidelines are in place to help reduce the spread of illness to students and staff in our schools. Thank you for your assistance in keeping out schools a safe, healthy, and enriching environment in which to learn.

Fever - Students should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

Vomiting - Your child may return to school after s/he has not thrown up for 24 hours and is back to eating a regular diet.

Diarrhea - Students may return to school after being diarrhea-free for 24 hours.

Rash - Consult with your child's healthcare provider regarding a rash of unknown cause.

Cough/Congestion - Students may return to school when they no longer experiencing severe coughing or congestion.

Communicable Illness - If your child has been diagnosed with a communicable disease requiring antibiotics (such as strep infection or pink eye) they need to be excluded from school until they have been treated with the antibiotic for 24 hours.

Lice - Your child may return to school once written verification of treatment has been completed. The student will also be examined by the school nurse or designee to determine that there are no live lice present. It will continue to be your responsibility to remove nits as they are found until none remain.

A child who is well enough to be in school is expected to participate in an outdoor recess and/or PE class unless there is written request from a physician that states otherwise.
