My name is Mary Kilar, and I am so proud to be the Principal of Purdy Elementary School!  

Purdy is home to roughly 275 students in Early Childhood to Fifth Grade, and provides a learning setting for a classroom of students in our 4K Head Start.  Purdy is led by 70 talented, caring, and expert professionals made up of teachers, secretaries, custodians, lunch coordinators, paraprofessionals, and MANY volunteers.

Our mission and vision at 1FORT schools is:  To achieve distinction in all we do and create an inclusive high performing culture of growth and community. 

From the minute you walk the halls of Purdy, you can feel the that mission come to life!  There is an immense pride and commitment to our culture of learning and relationship building. You will not find a more committed staff and engaged community.  We are “all in” for every student, every day!

Additionally, Purdy Elementary School:

  • Utilizes Illustrative Math- Math Curriculum

  • includes hands-on art classes utilizing disciplinary literacy, integrated music classes spanning student knowledge about music from basic levels of music appreciation up to rigorous levels of music composition and a physical education program that spotlights an adventure unit series for students to try all types of adventures!

  • has an active Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) which supports and funds a number of initiatives including field trips, playground equipment, artist-in-residencies, Breakfast with Santa, a Monster Mash, and so much more

  • Highlights student leadership opportunities and works to help students build an understanding of gratitude, respect, responsibility, thankfulness and safety to help provide a positive environment which promotes social success and self-confidence

  • offers an opportunity to be part of the Boys and Girls Club - a great after school option for our students.

  • places special emphasis on natural and green science-  Purdy has a "Green Team" which features students involved in environmental initiatives and study.  Students also learn about our solar voltaic and geothermal systems. 

Purdy Elementary Awards:

  • The District's Comprehensive Literacy Program was awarded 2013 Wisconsin Exemplary Reading Program and recognized by the Wisconsin State Reading Association and the International Reading Association! 

  • In 2012 Purdy Elementary School was among 72 schools in the United States to receive the US Department of Education National Green Ribbon Award!

  • Purdy Elementary has had 4 teachers awarded the prestigious Kohl Fellowship Award - for excellence in education!
